ISRO achievement

The Indian space programme  launched ten satellites  in 2016, three times more than the preceding year and the most ever, according to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) data. The September 26 launch of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C35 set two records: it was the longest satellite-launch mission yet, two hours, having completed its previous mission  in just under 30 minutes on June 22 (another benchmark occasion with the launching of 20 satellites in one go); and the rocket  released eight satellites  – five foreign and three Indian – into two orbits, something the ISRO has not done before. No more than 38% of satellites launched over the last ten years have been Indian.

Economic time

India has picked three economists from the academic world for a new monetary policy committee (MPC) to set interest rates, as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) gets ready for a landmark switch in the way it decides policy. They will join RBI Governor Urjit Patel and two senior officials from the bank's monetary policy department. Patel, who took over the helm at the RBI this month, will have the casting vote in the event of a tie. The non-RBI members named on Thursday are Chetan Ghate, a professor at Indian Statistical Institute; Pami Dua, a director at the Delhi School of Economics; and Ravindra Dholakia, a professor at the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad, in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state of Gujarat. All are low-profile and India-based, unlike Patel or his predecessor Raghuram Rajan, who had both worked at the International Monetary Fund at one point before joining the RBI. A former IMF chief economist, Rajan was feted on the global policy circuit, bu

Editorial analysis

SDG (sustainable development goals) are adopted by the UNGA (UN General Assembly) to transform the world by 2030. It has in total 17 goals and 169 targets. This major criticism of these sustainable development goals are they are too vague and general. Many overlapping a exist between the goals and targets.Funds are not delineated for the purpose of the achievement of these goals.Lack of data and scientific evidence is a major hurdle in building the climate change resilience. Coherence in Neighbourhood. India has hosted recently the visits of Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kumar canal also known as Prachanda. India showed the maturity of interaction with Prime minister Prachanda  and understood his sensitivities. So, amendment of the constitution of Nepal is not mentioned in the joint statement. The focus is on reconstruction and infrastructure development. President AshrafGhani of Afghanistan also has visited India and there is a clear shift in his attitude in dealing with India. A

Arunachal Pradesh crises

Arunachal Pradesh has taken a new turn in the context of the mass migration of 43 Congress MLAs, including the Chief Minister Pema Khandu, to the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA), part of a regional front led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Congress’s strength in the Assembly is now reduced to one as former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has chosen to remain in the party. . The 60-member State Assembly has a strength now of 57 — the status of two MLAs, Wanglam Sawin and Gabriel D. Wangsu, is pending with the Speaker over contentions over the disqualification issue, and Kalikho Pul, the former Chief Minister, is no more — and the emergence of the PPA as the single largest party is a political victory for the BJP. Timeline of crises The course of events can be seen as a logical continuation of political developments taking place in the border State since December 2014, when Nabam Tuki dropped Kalikho Pul, the Health and Family Welfare Minister, in a cabinet reshuffle. Nepal constitution crices

Nepal has had six constitutions so far and the problem in Nepal has not been writing the constitution but the ownership of constitutions. All the previous constitutions have not been owned by all sections of the society and all political forces. These constitutions have not been sustainable. Of course, there is a qualitative difference between the old ones and the new one. Previous constitutions were written by monarchs, but this has been written by elected people in the constituent assembly (CA). That is a positive difference. The idea was that the CA would be a platform where people from the diverse social groups of Nepal would sit together and collectively participate in drafting a document and would  have the same common rules for all. The idea was that the CA would bridge and overcome the social and ethnic divisions existing in Nepal. The idea was that the CA would create a political structure where different ethnic groups and social groups, particularly excluded ones, would get
